Funnels and conversion paths
How to analyse a signup funnel
Measure the path from signup intent to a verified, useful first session.
Signup completion is not the whole story. A healthy signup flow makes the first meaningful product experience easy without hiding what the user is agreeing to.
Model intent through activation
Map the path from pricing or signup entry to account creation, verification and a first useful action. Separate failure to create an account from failure to activate afterward; they have different causes. Agree on what activation means for your product before reading the report.

Try Alexander freeInspect friction and expectation
Check field count, password rules, confirmation email delivery, validation errors and mobile keyboard behaviour. Compare visitors by source because some arrive ready to start while others are still researching. Be clear about price, trial terms and the information required. A higher completion rate is not healthy if it comes from misleading expectations.
Measure quality after signup
Follow cohorts to the first action that demonstrates value and, where applicable, paid conversion or retention. If fewer people finish signup but those who do activate much more often, the form may be filtering for fit. Use support feedback and interviews to understand the trade-off, and make the most consequential step easier to understand.
